The USAF has entered the 21st Century! After prohibiting access to all social networking and personal sites (for security reasons, mind you, not to keep tabs on the good folks who defend the country and could, in theory, while away the drearier hours playing games and looking for a date), a few days ago the upper echelons opened access to, among other applications, you-tube, facebook, and gmail.

Frankly, I am stunned at the emergence of good sense.

At any rate, I will try to update this page now and again as long as I can do so. To all my friends who used to visit the site, and especially those who weighed in with their opinions and corrections, hurry back.

Cheers, Ev

I had only marginal interest in the subject (the Middle East), but followed the prevailing wisdom that one must take his class just for the theater. He is even more colorful and interesting in person than his writing, which sparkles. Here he apologizes for not seeing Sam Huntington’s wisdom in the “Clash of Civilizations.” Huntington’s critique of the West, particularly of American elites, ends up being his most trenchant observation—one we should keep close at hand as we observe, analyze and influence US foreign policy.
